In dystopian London, Alex DeLarge is a charismatic, Beethoven-loving delinquent who leads his gang of "droogs" on brutal sprees of ultra-violence. After murdering a wealthy woman, his treacherous gang abandons him to the police. Imprisoned and desperate for freedom, Alex volunteers for the Ludovico Technique, an experimental government aversion therapy. Through forced exposure to violent imagery paired with nausea-inducing drugs, he is psychologically conditioned to experience severe sickness whenever he encounters violence or hears Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.
